Jay White uses animation, storytelling, interdisciplinary and process-based work to explore the relationships between himself and the human and non-human entities that surround him.

Multi-day walks form the foundation of his current practice. Within these walks, Jay investigates his personal history through site-specific collaborations with plants, animals and landscapes. His practice draws from a sixteen-year career ranging from animating music videos, television shows and video games to multimedia and painting exhibitions, to collaborations with theatre, dance companies and independent filmmakers.

His work as Art Director on the animated series Dragon Booster helped it garner a Gemini Award for Best Animated Series in 2005. His animated short Boar Attack premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, won many Best Animated Short awards at festivals internationally, and was longlisted for Academy Award nomination in 2009.

Most recently, he has contributed to group exhibitions at the Yukon Arts Centre Gallery (May-August 2013), and at Emily Carr University (July 2013).

Jay currently teaches in the Animation Department at Emily Carr University.
